With a passion for music and a natural talent for songwriting, Swiss singer-songwriter LETI shares poetic lyricism in awe-inspiring melodies. Blending elements of folk, jazz and soul into ambient soundscapes, her music is highly intoxicating. Just as her songs are unique and intriguing, the theme behind her tender tunes is what really connects LETI with audiences. Taking on social and political issues, LETI is not afraid to explore the darker, more profound areas of life. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Orpheus’.
Using the legendary Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, LETI touches on self-inquiry and desperation to “keep to the path”. If you aren’t clued up on Orpheus, here’s a brief description. Orpheus was married to Eurydice, but Eurydice suffered a snakebite and died soon after they were wed. Orpheus was unable to live without Eurydice, so he descended to the underworld in an attempt to reclaim his wife. His tale touched Hades and it was agreed that Eurydice could return from the dead following Orpheus out of the underworld. The catch: Orpheus was not to turn and look at Eurydice until they reached the land of the living. Needless to say, he was unable to do this and just before they were beyond the reach of Hades, Orpheus turned about to send Eurydice back to the underworld forever.
While Orpheus was unable to keep to the rules and proceed without question, LETI uses a modern-day tale to prompt the lesson: stay patient and keep going. She explains that “the main message is don’t look back, trust the process, no matter what happens along the way…”
Influenced by the likes of James Blake and Bjork, LETI is unafraid to bring a distinctive, different style to audiences. Following her well-received track ‘Change Is Here’, the songstress adopted a softer, soothing and gentle sound in ‘Orpheus’. Her soulful vocals carry across the mellow tune placing you in a hazy, wistful bubble of sound. Yet, just as the charming voice soothes your soul, it also tears into your heart with its seemingly melancholic tone. Interestingly, while a sorrowful sensation oozes from the simple melody, LETI brings hopefulness and optimism to listeners with ‘Orpheus’.
